These are the first photos of the sighting back in June 09. when I first started birding
The comment is quite interesting because I did not realize the color change was so dramatic.
and its the female that changes color
Avadavat (Amandava amandava) in the breeding season.
they are smaller than the sparrow and not much bigger than a wren you can tell how small they are from the main photo before cutting, the interesting bit is they like the seeds of the papyrus plant and the yellow bird I only realized was in the frame while cutting on the computer, this bird is not in my bird book, notice the unmistakable red strike to the eye, first I thought it was the Female Nile valley sun bird, I was also lucky to get the shots. they were about 45ft away and I happened to have the 75-300 zoom lens on because 5 minutes earlier I tried to get a photo of a butterfly that would not keep still long enough to get a good shot of with my normal 17-85 lens. I managed to get 5/6 frames in quick succesion then they flew off into the reed bed . Thinking they would come back I hid in the reeds and waited about an hour but no such luck. on my return I asked the local farmer if he had seen these birds , never was his answer where did I see them. so if it was not for the photos It could have been true what the guy said ,I dreamed about them,

Oh my, these are a find. They look like a dream :) how stunningly beautiful they are. I probably would have waited an hour to see them again too. Maybe you fell asleep during your watch and your camera took pictures of your mind's eye. :) Just kidding. Your patience and determination pays off. Good hunting!
